I ran the red light camera in Colonial Heights. It was 5 am in the morning, I was on my way to work, and I had coffee on my mind. The citation said it had been red for 16 seconds.

It's beenwhile since I received ANY tickets.
I think the ticket I received was for running through a RED LIGHT CAMERA, and that was I think two years ago.
The other ticket I got was for NOT HAVING ENOUGH MONEY on my GOOD TO GO account. I think I was 50 cents short and received a ticket. I went to court, and the judge said that IT WAS MY RESPONSIBILITY TO KNOW WHAT I HAVE IN MY ACCOUNT. Despite my good paying history and this was my first ticket, he did NOT drop it and so I had to pay it. I was pissed. Oh well. Never got another ticket. The state since changed that. Now they have a few different ways to pay.
Pass is the cheapest. Then the toll booth. Then, just keep driving and they send you a pay by mail charge.
All my other tickets were handed to me (speeding/fix-its) or left on my car window (2 parking).

I received a ticket for running through a red(yellow is much shorter than non-photo enforced traffic signals)light in June of 2011! I contested it & was amazed at how many high definition cameras, close-ups, different angles, and recorded movie of my car they had! Quite impressive and top of the line! While in mediation court(one on one)I was shown all the photos & movie! They must pay a fortune for this top end equipment! My $145 fine was reduced to $100 and I chose 10 hours of community service. This is the only ticket I have had in the last 20+ yrs.! Others with the same ticket had their's reduced to $20-$75 and the fine varied from intersections. The only good thing about this ridiculous scam(my opinion)was, it is not treated as a moving violation as no officer was involved. So my insurance company has no reported infraction! Of course, it may well be different now and could be reported to your policy holder. I really don't know, but it would not surprise me if things have changed over the last year. I worked my 10 hours of community service at a food bank which was quite to my advantage, considering what I was given in groceries each day I helped them! Might help someone if they end up in same position as I did!

ə i never have gotten such a citation. the closest thing to one was when i missed a toll on the illinois tollway system by going into the wrong lane. i got a late-pay envelope at the next tollbooth and had to send a check for 75¢! ə

Have a phone or other mobile device? Get an app that warns you of these cash cows... Traffic light violation, speed traps, construction zones, and even other road hazards (though checkpoints (of any kind) have been removed from the apps, thanks to a few narrow-minded senators who should be jailed for threatening Apple, Google, etc. The funny thing is, many of the checkpoints, dates and locations, are published in the newspapers/online, by the police departments ahead of time anyway, and by some, even on their own websites.)
I love Trapster myself and there are several others listed here: http://autos.aol.com/article/how-to-avoid-speed-traps/ (PhantomAlert & FuzzAlert)
I also thought there was one called Wazy, but I can't seem to find it now, but I never tried it anyway.

I know in Toronto they have cameras in major intersections and you do get ticket over the mail. In Montreal that's not possible, the roads there are such a mess it is impossible to do more than 40kms without inflicting massive damage to your suspension.
